With over 25 years of legal practice, Mr. Mar has appeared in all level of courts in British Columbia, and in many tribunals. Having obtained his law degree at the University of British Columbia, he was called to both the Bars of British Columbia and Yukon. Mr. Mar holds a wealth of expertise in areas including corporate law, civil litigation, immigration law, estate law, and real estate law. An experienced trial lawyer and negotiator, he has acted as mediator in many cases. He provides regular services to businesses on Vancouver Island, being highly in demand for his valuable, strategic and practical advice. Mr. Mar has also practiced immigration law for 20 years, comprising all sectors, including visas and permanent residency applications. He works with clients from countries all of over the world, delivering superior communication and understanding.
Community-minded, Mr. Mar serves on numerous boards and volunteers his time generously to local organizations. In 2009, he was awarded the CFAX Community Leader of the Year Award. Instrumental in raising funds for various schools, he has supported the implementation and continuation of musical programs and athletic endeavours. Mr. Mar currently serves on the board of the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Society, the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club Society, and the Chinese-Canadian National Culture Centre. He has also been actively involved on the boards of the Knowledge network (BC), the Victoria Chinese Commerce Association, the Vancouver Island Memorial Society, and the Victoria Chinatown Care Foundation. Mr. Mar has served as counsel and Privacy Officer for the Vancouver Island Memorial Society and the People’s Memorial Society, as well as for the Victoria Hoi Ping Association.
